Photos on Portal


How do I manage my photos using the Portal app?

If you're managing photos using the Portal app:

  • You can upload up to 20 photos at once.
  • You cannot add or delete photos when an upload is in progress.
  • Photos you upload from the camera roll will only be displayed in the Portal app and on your household device.

To manage photos using the Portal app:

  1. Open the Portal app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap Photos.
  3. Tap the album you would like to add or remove.
  4. Tap Display to display or remove photos.

To create an album in using the Portal app:

  1. Open the Portal app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap Photos, then tap the photo plus icon in the top right corner.
  3. Tap the photos you would like to add, then tap Add Photos.
  4. Tap New Album.
  5. Type your album name, then tap Create Album.

How do I adjust display settings on my Portal?

Personalize your Portal smart display settings, with Alexa Built-in, using the guide below.

To adjust smart display settings on your Portal:

  1. From Apps, tap Settings .
  2. Tap Display.

From here, you can control and adjust smart display settings on your Portal:

  • Display Brightness: Adjust the brightness on your display.
  • Photo Transition Speed: Adjust the frequency that Portal display rotates through pictures and videos by tapping Photo Transition Speed, then tap next to desired speed.
  • Photos: Manage the photos that will display on your Portal.
  • Birthdays: Set whether you'd like to see Birthday reminders for your displayed on your Portal.
  • Tips: Set whether you'd like to see Portal feature and functionality displayed on your Portal.
  • Weather: Set whether you'd like to see the weather forecast for your area displayed on your Portal. Your weather forecast will be based on the city associated with your Portal.
  • Hidden Photos: See all of your hidden photos and videos.

How do I add or remove photos to display on my Portal?

You can use the Photo app on your device or the Portal app on your mobile phone to choose which photos to display on your Portal. You can display photos from Facebook albums, Portal albums and Instagram posts.

We consider things like how often you use your Portal, how often you swipe through photos and basic user information to determine the order your photos appear on your Portal’s display.

Facebook and Portal Albums

To add or remove photos from your device:

  1. From Apps, tap Photos .
  2. Tap the album you would like to add or remove.
  3. Tap next to Display to add or remove photos.

To hide or unhide photos:

  1. From Apps, tap Photos .
  2. Tap the album, then tap the photo you would like to hide.
  3. Tap Hide or Unhide.

To unhide photos:

  1. From Apps, tap Photos .
  2. Tap Settings .
  3. Tap Hidden Photos.
  4. Tap the photo you want to unhide, then tap Unhide.

If you remove a photo from Facebook that was previously displayed on Portal, it will no longer appear on Portal.

Instagram Posts

To add your Instagram posts:

  1. From Apps, tap Photos . You may need to confirm your login to make changes.
  2. Tap Add Your Instagram Photos then select Add Account.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to confirm your Instagram account.
  4. Tap Your Posts to see your Instagram posts on Portal.

To remove your Instagram Posts:

  1. From Apps, tap Photos . You may need to confirm your login to make changes.
  2. Below Instagram, select the account you want to remove.
  3. Select Remove Account.
  4. Tap Remove.
Portal App

To add photos from your mobile phone to a Portal album:

  1. Open the Portal app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap Photos, then tap the photo plus icon in the top right corner.
  3. Tap the photos your would like to add, then tap Add Photos.
  4. Tap New Album or an exsisting album.
  5. If you are creating a new album, type your album name and tap Create Album.

To add or remove albums from the Portal app:

  1. Open the Portal app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap Photos.
  3. Tap the album you would like to add or remove.
  4. Tap Display to display or remove the album.

What is Ambient Mode on Portal?

When you're not on a call, you can display photos of you and your friends and family on your Portal.

You can change your display setting to:

  • Display photos when your Portal is idle.
  • See when your closest contacts are available to connect.
  • View album artwork if you're listening to music.
  • See the current time and weather for your area.
  • Receive birthday reminders for your friends on Facebook.
  • See tips for using Portal.

How do I share a Portal album with others?

You can create an album on the Portal app and share it with others to display on their Portals and Portal TVs.

To share an album with others:

  1. Create an album in your Portal app.
  2. Open your album, then tap .
  3. Tap next to the names of people you want to share your album with.
  4. Tap Share With [Number] People.

Once you share your album with others they will receive a notification through their Portal App and Portal Device. They can tap Display On Portal to add the album to their Portal.

How can I make sure that Superframe displays my photos in the highest possible quality?

Superframe will display photos in the quality they were uploaded to Facebook. We recommend uploading Photos through facebook.com, rather than the mobile app, to ensure higher resolution.

How do I use my Portal’s home screen?

Watch this video to see basic tips for your new home screen.

When your Portal is idle it will display photos. To start using your Portal, tap your touch screen to access apps, make calls and explore tips.

View your apps

  • Tap your Apps to view all your Portal apps.

Learn how to manage your Portal apps.

Make a call

Recent and favorite contacts will display on your home screen.

  • Tap your home screen to view your recent and favorite contacts in the top right corner.
  • Swipe right and left to scroll through your recent and favorite contacts.
  • Tap to see more contacts.

Manage your tip and recommendation cards

  • Tap your home screen to view tip and recommendation cards.
  • Swipe up to see more cards.
  • Swipe right to remove the tip or recommendation card from your screen. Your last tip or recommendation card can’t be removed.

Access controls

  • Swipe up from the bottom of your screen to adjust brightness and volume, turn Bluetooth on and off, and access more controls.

Switch accounts

  • Tap the profile picture in the top left corner.

Return to home screen

  • Tap at the top of your screen.
