Physical space required to use Horizon Workrooms
To safely and comfortably use Workrooms, we recommend having a space of at least 4 feet x 4 feet (1.22 x 1.22 meters) to use your virtual desk, or 6.5 feet x 5 feet (1.98 x 1.52 meters) to use the virtual whiteboard.
Using Horizon Workrooms without a physical desk
Workrooms was designed to bring your real-life work desk into VR. While you don’t need to have a physical desk, you will need to have a level, flat surface available to use Workrooms.
Countries where Horizon Workrooms is available
The Workrooms (Beta) VR app is available on the Oculus Store for Meta Quest 2 in these countries. The Workrooms web app is available globally in countries where Facebook is available.
Do I need to have an Meta Quest 2 headset to use Horizon Workrooms?
A Meta Quest 2 headset is required for the first person who creates a Workrooms account for your team, and for anyone who wants to join meetings in VR. People can also join Workrooms meetings from video call on desktop if they don’t have a Meta Quest 2.

Horizon Workrooms teams, members and guests
By signing up for a Workrooms account for your company or team, you will create a Workrooms team that others can be invited to join. The person who creates a Workrooms team becomes the team’s admin.
Within a Workrooms team you can set up workrooms. Each workroom is a virtual space to meet and collaborate with others. Anyone with a Workrooms account invited to a workroom will become a member of that workroom and will be added to the team that owns the workroom.
Workroom members can book meetings in workrooms they are a member of. They can also invite people to meetings, even if they are not members of the workroom. We refer to these non-member invitees as workroom guests. Anyone invited to a meeting in a workroom can invite other members or guests to that meeting.
Horizon Workrooms admins
The first person who creates a Workrooms team is also its admin. Admins are required to pair an Meta Quest 2 headset, which must be logged in with Facebook, before they can continue to use the Workrooms app and invite people to join them. Admins also control membership in their team and are responsible for the content and behavior of other members in their team.
Do I need a Facebook account to use Horizon Workrooms?
If you’re creating a new Workrooms team, or if you want to join a Workrooms meeting in VR, you will need to log into your Meta Quest 2 headset, which requires a Facebook account.
To create a Workrooms account, you are only required to enter your name and email on the Workrooms web app. Guests invited to a workroom should be older than 18 and will be asked to confirm their age before they can join a meeting.

Use your computer and keyboard in VR
Use your computer in VR in Horizon Workrooms
To use your computer in VR in Workrooms, you’ll need to first download and install Oculus Remote Desktop for macOS (Big Sur, Catalina and Monterey) or Windows (10 and 11). Oculus Remote Desktop lets you pair your computer to your Oculus headset, streaming what is on your computer screen into VR.
You’ll be prompted to download Oculus Remote Desktop after you create your Workrooms account. You can also download it from Settings in the Workrooms web app, or from the links below:
To use your computer in VR with Workrooms:
- From your computer, open Oculus Remote Desktop and log in with your Workrooms account.
- Oculus Remote Desktop requires the microphone and screen recording permissions on macOS in order to stream audio from your computer to the headset in VR.
- From your Oculus headset, open the Workrooms app.
- Once you’re in Workrooms, select
Computer from the workroom menu.
- Hover over your computer and select Connect. This will open an Oculus Remote Desktop Streaming Request on your computer.
- From your computer, press Enter on your keyboard or click Confirm on the Oculus Remote Desktop Streaming Request.
Switching monitors
Currently, you can only see 1 monitor at a time when using your computer in VR in Workrooms. We are working on making it possible to see multiple monitors at once.
To switch monitors when using your computer in VR:
- From the Workrooms app, hover over your in-VR computer screen and select Switch monitors.
GPU support on Windows
It's common for gaming computers to have a hybrid GPU setup. However, Oculus Remote Desktop can only run on your computer’s integrated GPU. You can adjust which GPU is used for Oculus Remote Desktop in your Windows settings.
Keep in mind, some GPUs have their own control panel application that overrides Windows settings (for example Nvidia). If your GPU has a control panel, be sure to enable integrated GPU support for Oculus Remote Desktop from the control panel application.
Audio known issues
Windows:
- Some Windows computers may have issues with volume controls when using Oculus Remote Desktop. To fix this, switch your computer's main audio output device to the Oculus Virtual Audio Device speakers. If that doesn't work, reduce the volume on your computer and increase the volume on your headset.
- Plugging in or unplugging an audio device while using Oculus Remote Desktop may cause issues.
MacOS:
- Oculus Remote Desktop installs a virtual audio device to enable streaming audio from your computer to your headset. Removing Oculus Remote Desktop by dragging the application to the trash will not uninstall the virtual audio device. Please run the uninstaller to completely uninstall Oculus Remote Desktop.
- Plugging in or unplugging an audio device while using Oculus Remote Desktop may cause issues.
Troubleshooting lag or latency
If you're experiencing lag or latency issues when using Oculus Remote Desktop, here are some tips for improving performance:
- Make sure your headset and computer are on the same network.
- Connect your headset to Wi-Fi via 5GHz band, if available.
- Have your router in the same room as your headset or in line-of-sight, and at least 3 feet (1 meter) off the ground.
- Ensure your router's software is up to date.
- Check your computer's firewall settings.
- Closing other apps or programs that are using your network or streaming may improve performance.
- If you're still experiencing issues, try rebooting your router.
- If you're consistently experiencing low bandwidth, contact your ISP.
Use your keyboard in VR in Horizon Workrooms
Workrooms supports keyboard tracking for compatible models to bring your physical keyboard into VR. If your keyboard is not supported, you can turn on Passthrough for your virtual desk to see your keyboard on your physical desk while in VR.
To bring your keyboard into VR in Workrooms:
- From the Workrooms VR app, select the
Settings tab of your desk menu.
- Select Desk, then select Tracked Keyboard.
- Select your keyboard from the list.
If your keyboard is supported, it will appear in VR after you select it from the list. For best results, make sure there is enough light in the room you’re in so that your headset can detect your keyboard.
To use your keyboard in Workrooms with Passthrough:
- From the Workrooms app, select
Passthrough on the right side of your virtual desk.
This will create a transparent section on your virtual desk so that you can see your keyboard on your real desk.
Supported keyboards in VR in Horizon Workrooms
Workrooms supports the following tracked keyboards:
- Apple Magic Keyboard
- Logitech K830
- MacBook Pro 13” (2016-2020)
- MacBook Pro 15”
- MacBook Pro 16”
We’re working on adding support for more keyboards in the future.

Where can I provide feedback for Horizon Workrooms?
To provide feedback for Workrooms:
- From the Workrooms web app, click on your name in the bottom left corner.
- Click Help & Support, then click Give Feedback or Report a Problem.
Why was I directed to Workplace.com to sign up for Horizon Workrooms?
The Workrooms web app is built on top of Workplace from Facebook and hosted on workplace.com.
What information is collected when I use Passthrough in Horizon Workrooms?
Workrooms can’t access, view or store images or videos of your own physical environment from the Meta Quest 2 sensors. Raw images from device sensors are processed on the device and overwritten instantaneously, which means it does not leave the device or reach Facebook servers.
I tried to sign up for a Horizon Workrooms account but I was told I need to use a different email address
If your email is associated with a verified Workplace domain, or you have previously created a Workplace team with this email, you will need to use a separate email to register your Workrooms account.
Delete your Horizon Workrooms account
To delete your Workrooms account:
- From the Workrooms web app, click your name in the bottom left.
- Click
Settings.
- Click Delete Profile.
